Welcome to Urban Cats Philippines.
Urban Cats Philippines (UCPH) exists to provide clear, practical, and locally relevant education for people who care for cats in urban areas of the Philippines. Our goal is to make responsible cat care easier to understand and easier to practice—whether you’re caring for one indoor cat or a whole group of community cats.
We believe good information leads to better outcomes for cats and the people who care for them.
Who We’re For
When we say “cat lovers,” we mean people who:
• feed and look after community cats
• support trap–neuter–vaccinate–return (TNVR)
• foster cats while waiting for adoption
• choose adoption over buying from breeders
• support laws and efforts that protect animals
• practice responsible, humane pet ownership
You don’t need to do all of these to belong here. If you care about cats and want to do better by them, you’re in the right place.
Founder’s Story
Urban Cats Philippines was founded by Jasmin Casumpang, who lives in a condominium in Metro Manila.
Like many urban residents, she started by feeding the cats that lived in her building’s parking area. Over time, she noticed how quickly the cat population grew. One day, she learned that one of the kittens had been run over by a car.
Wanting to prevent this from happening again, she began researching long-term, humane solutions. That’s when she discovered trap–neuter–vaccinate–return. While the approach was widely discussed online, most of the resources she found were written for North America and Europe, with little guidance for local conditions in the Philippines.
Urban Cats Philippines grew from the need to adapt proven practices to a Philippine urban setting—and to share that learning with others facing the same challenges.
Meet the Team
Urban Cats Philippines is a collaborative effort grounded in real, on-the-ground cat care.
Jasmin Casumpang
Founder & Editor
Jasmin oversees the editorial direction of Urban Cats Philippines. She focuses on making complex topics—like health care, population control, and responsible ownership—clear and accessible for everyday cat caregivers.
She works closely with community caregivers and reviewers to ensure that each article is practical, humane, and relevant to local realities.
John Lajo
Researcher & Community Cat Caregiver
John is the primary researcher and author of the first drafts published on Urban Cats Philippines. He is also an active caregiver for the community cats in the area, continuing hands-on care and monitoring on a daily basis.
John and Jasmin began working together as neighbors and later formed a close collaboration focused on improving the welfare of local cats. His writing is grounded in direct observation, lived experience, and a deep respect for community-based care.
Outside of cat welfare work, John enjoys music and restoring vehicles. His research and writing help ensure that Urban Cats Philippines reflects real situations faced by caregivers on the ground—not just theory.
